Be Fruitful And Mulitply
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it” (Genesis 1:28a)
I enjoyed the challenge Pastor Mark gave us on Easter Sunday. He challenged us to find three things that amazed us about God and then tell them to three different people. I am taking on this challenge and would like to share my thoughts with you.
The verse above tells about when God had created male and female and gave them the task of being fruitful and multiplying. Why? God had a plan for us to partner with Him to subdue the earth. Why? Because there is an enemy that wants control over our world. Acts 6 tells us about how the Word of God increased and the disciples multiplied when the Word was shared. How do we multiply? We share the Word of God with the people that God brings into our lives. In this way we subdue and win back from the enemy our family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. This amazes me! God wants to partner with me? The Creator wants to use me to multiply His Kingdom? I am a wretch, why would He want me?
This brings me to the second thing that amazes me about God. “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8) It seems that the more I get to know God the more wretched I realize I am. It may amaze some of you to know that I have committed many sins. What amazes me, though, is that through the one act of Jesus’ death on the cross, God has forgiven all of them: past, present and future! Think of it! God knows and has known from the beginning my sin and has still provided a way for me to come to Him.
I would like to share one more thing that amazes me about God. He is faithful even when I am faithless. I can so easily get bogged down in my circumstances and lose sight of the big picture. I forget, doubt, or just plain deny His power to provide for me. The strength I needed during the birth of my two sons; the hope I needed when the news of my husband’s cancer came; the faith I needed during financial worries and the list goes on. Yet, there He is, showing Himself faithful in every circumstance of my life. He hasn’t taken all my trials away but what He has done is remain faithful to His promise to provide what I need when I need it. Amazing!
How about you? Can you think of three things about God that amaze you? Find three people and share how amazing God is!
