Freedom From Addiction
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 - Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Over the last five weeks I've challenged you to recognize those things in your life which are keeping you from God, those things that you just can't seem to give up. I've very lightly touched on some of the key issues that are important to keep in mind when fighting against a habitual sin. There is so much more to consider, but this is not the appropriate place to go into greater detail.
Fortunately, God has provided you with so many resources. The Bible has a lot to say on the subject of giving up sin. God's word directly addresses this issue because God himself greatly desires your freedom. God has moved in the heart of many of his people to provide help to those who are struggling with a sinful lifestyle. Many resources can be found online or at a Christian book store. Even in your own church there are those who are eager to help you find freedom. Your pastor is a good place to start seeking help. There is even a contact option on this website to help you get in touch with us so that we can provide help.
Deciding to take steps to end a habitual sin and become closer to God can be a very scary thing. It is important to realize that God has provided you with a way out. The path to freedom may involve many ups and downs. Changing habits is very rarely simple and easy. However, there is truly only defeat when you give up and stop seeking God.
Satan will try to discourage you. He will try to convince you that there is no hope of victory. This is one of the reasons why it's so important to find a partner in this fight. They can encourage you when you need a reminder. Keep in mind that Jesus is our hope. Jesus changes lives. I know this because he changed mine just as he has done for so many others.
