What
type of church is Calvary Chapel?
Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational church, but all this means is
that we are not a part of a denomination or legally attached group of
churches. There are over twelve hundred Calvary Chapel churches all
over the world, but we are only a group of loosely affiliated pastors
and churches all trying to love God and love people. We do not have
anything against denominations, we just prefer the individuality we
find not being one. We do not act much like a traditional type of church.
We are very casual in our gatherings and find connecting to other believers
is a blast. We simply teach the Bible simply. This is a primary emphasis
of our church because we think understanding the whole Bible is critical
to all believers who want to grow in their knowledge of God.
What does a typical Sunday Morning look like?
On any given Sunday morning we will spend some time worshipping God
through prayer and music. Then after we talk a little about what is
happening during the coming week or month, we spend time studying the
Bible We teach through the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter,
and book by book. Then when we are all done, we start over again through
the Bible. Sometimes we do special studies about important topics, but
we primarily study through the Bible.
What type of music do you play at your church?
We play contemporary worship music and occasionally we add in some older
hymns. Sometimes we have special guest musicians who come to perform
their own stuff, this is cool and we like a little change on a Sunday
once in a while.
What should I wear?
As long as you are decently covered, it doesn't matter
what you are wearing. We have people for the most part who dress casually
at each gathering. Occasionally we dress a little nicer, but this is
still not an issue. We think it is all about you being gathered together
with the saints rather than about what your clothes look like.
Are there people who can pray for me or answer my questions?
Absolutely. This is something we make sure we are prepared
to do all of the time. There is always somebody around who is willing
to pray with you about anything and answer any questions you may have
without judgmental attitudes or critical hearts.
Do I need to bring a Bible to church?
We always have Bibles here if you do not have one or you forget yours.
Nevertheless, we encourage everyone to bring a Bible since we will be
spending time there during almost any gathering. If you have your own
Bible then you can take notes in it or write down some thoughts along
the way to help you remember something that God may show you from the
passage we are studying.
Is your church a place I can grow and get involved?
Absolutely! It is our hope you will make the effort to grow in Christ
here and eventually get involved in serving as a part of the Body of
Christ. We think this is something that is natural for any follower
of Christ.
Do you guys talk about money or ask for money?
No, we do not ask for money. We think that the people who consider this
their home church should help financially because they are helping to
make sure the mortgage is being paid and the lights stay on. Apart from
this, we believe what an older Calvary Chapel pastor taught us. "Where
God guides, He provides." We trust God to put it on the hearts
of believers to give so we do not want to bug people about that stuff.
In fact, we do not even take up an offering. We have an offering box
in the back of the room for people who want to give as God leads them.
Now, about the first question. We will talk about money if when we are
teaching through a book of the Bible we come across a verse of scripture
that talks about money. So in those times when we come across a passage
like 2 Corinthians chapters 8 and 9 that speak about money, we will.
Otherwise, we do not talk about money.

If you have other questions, feel free to ask anything you like. If
you want to sit over coffee and ask more detailed or personal questions
just contact us at the church. We know that if you are coming to church
for the first time or you are coming out of Mormonism you have a lot
of questions. We want to be here for you to help you make the transition
and draw closer to God.
