Calvary Chapel
Overview Calvary Chapel Wasatch Front is a non-denominational church
that is a part of a large group of churches throughout the world. Calvary
Chapel began in the sixties with the Jesus People Movement with Chuck
Smith and has grown to over a thousand churches. We emphasize the teaching
of the Bible verse by verse and have worship that is contemporary in
style. Calvary Chapel seeks to maintain orthodox Christian doctrine
and we also seek to glorify God with our lives as well. Something else
you will see immediately when you attend is that we are casual in our
approach to fellowship and ministry. People wearing ties, people wearing
jeans and shorts all on the same day is normal and to be expected here.
For more information about Calvary Chapel, see the book Harvest, the story of Calvary Chapel. |

Word About the Pastor

Mark
Gomez became a Christian in 1976 and began attending Calvary Chapel
of Costa Mesa with Chuck Smith. Soon after Mark also began attending
the Sunday Morning studies done by Dr. Walter Martin as well. “This
really helped establish a strong faith for me,” Mark says, “as well
as a solid Biblical understanding.” A couple of years later he began
serving as an usher and counselor at Calvary Chapel of Downey, Ca. After
serving for a few years in many different ministries, Mark began pastoring
a Calvary Chapel in 1983 in Southern California. Taking over a small
Cavary Chapel in Lakewood, California and pastoring it for eight and
a half years, it was the first church he pastored. "Those were
learning years" Mark says, "of course, I am still learning,
Praise God that He is not afraid of using willing hearts who are committed
to Him."

| In 1991 Mark and his family moved to Idaho Falls, ID where they helped establish the Calvary Chapel Idaho Falls. In 1995 Mark and his family moved again to here in Utah, where he began this new work in Ogden. Struggling for more room the church, the fellowship moved to Layton and then to the new location in Clearfield. Teaching the scriptures, expounding on God’s word in counseling, and letting the Word of God be a guide for leading the church here in Utah are critical to Pastor Mark. “It is the word of God that changes people’s lives”, he says, “that is where we want to be.” You will find the fellowship here does not want to be involved in gimmicks and programs, everyone wants the teaching of God’s word and letting God change people. |
